About This Guide

Piercing healing is where most clients struggle, not because they do not care, but because the information available is inconsistent, often wrong and almost never specific enough to be genuinely useful. This resource changes that.

Whether you are a week into healing and wondering if what you are experiencing is normal, trying to understand why your cartilage piercing is still not right after six months, dealing with a bump that will not go away or looking for placement-specific timelines before you decide what to get — the guide you need is in this resource.

Quick Answers

The healing questions our clients ask most

Why does my cartilage piercing still hurt after months?

Cartilage has much lower blood supply than soft tissue. Six to twelve months is a normal and expected healing range for most cartilage placements. Surface healed does not mean fully healed — the internal channel continues developing long after the skin closes over.

What is the bump on my piercing?

Most bumps are irritation bumps caused by pressure, friction or poor-quality jewellery rather than infections. A hypertrophic scar or keloid is a different presentation. The cause determines the correct response — our guide covers all three types.

How do I know if my nose piercing is healing properly?

Reducing symptoms over time is the key indicator. A healing piercing should be progressively less sore, less swollen and producing less discharge as the weeks pass. Stable or worsening symptoms after the first week warrant attention.

Can I heal an infected piercing myself?

Mild irritation can be addressed with improved aftercare. A genuine infection — increasing pain, spreading redness, green or yellow pus, fever — requires medical attention. Do not remove the jewellery without medical advice as this can trap the infection.

What is the fastest healing piercing?

Tongue piercings heal faster than almost any other common placement at four to six weeks, due to the mouth's exceptional blood supply and natural antibacterial properties. Earlobes are the fastest-healing external piercing at six to eight weeks.

Does my belly button piercing need a year to heal?

Yes, often. Navel piercings sit in a high-movement area subject to constant clothing friction. Surface healing may occur in a few months but full healing of the internal channel typically takes six to twelve months and sometimes longer.
